Submission..is like running.

What does it mean to beat your body into submission?

It means to make it your slave.

Meaning:

Your stomach is not your god

And neither are your passions, your desires, your impulses and pleasures.

It means to train your body (your flesh) and your spirit to be submissive to the power of the cross.

Right now I am learning how to run. That’s right. I said I am learning how to run. Training hasn’t even begun yet for me. Training means to push yourself into a higher level of strength and to perfect the skills you have learned. I'm just trying to get my mind over the matter of why I cant stand running, but truth of the matter is running when trying to get into a healthy routine) can be sacrificial. To sacrifice means to lay down (kill) something valuable (in this case its comfort) in order to receive or achieve a certain goal.

If you got an idea where I am going with this just nod your head and smile. If you don’t…just nod your head and smile. You see when Paul talked about making our bodies submit to the will of Jesus Christ he really did mean ALL OF YOU.

PHILIPPIANS 2
"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the SPIRIT, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the sameLOVE, being one in spirit and purpose. Do NOTHING out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also the interests of other.
Your attitude should be the same as that of CHRIST JESUS:
who being in the very nature of GOD
did not consider equality with GOD something to be grasped
but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
......HE HUMBLED HIMSELF."
One of the most major keys to LOVING people is having the attitude of humility. Without humility you are unable to walk as JESUS did. No servant is greater than his master. In MARK 10:43-45 Jesus speaks to his disciples about lowering themselves to become great. "..and whoever wants to be first must be a slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many"
